Portal and news/announcement forum

I wanted to bring these up. I think we should have a portal/welcome page thing, and a forum for the mods/admins to post news and announcements (which will show up on the portal, along with who's online, top posters, hot topics, and other nice stuff).

Anything to add, disagreements, suggestions, etc.?

Sounds good to me. I can't think of anything else that we'd really need.
Having something about the factions might be good too, like who is winning the most battles or something like that might be good too.

That's an idea as well.
Maybe some polls relating to different aspects of the RP when they come up, too. It'd be a fair way to tally votes.

I'm joking, of course, I think we will need a designated topic.

I'm not so sure about the portal idea, it works for larger, more kid-friendly forums (not as in maturity level, but as in what Lego does with the design. You know, it's less complicated, easier for young kids to understand and work with). But as it is, we're a small group of veterans. We can take the complexity in stride, and as it is, I really like the design of this forum. A portal would, honestly, bug me a lot. Unless we intend to make this a large-scale forum with lots of little noobs joining all the time, I think we could do without a portal page.

Also, if you wanted to make the portal page separate, then be my guest. My issue is if the portal page displays every single time you log in or navigate to the site. That is what would bug me.

The portal would basically function as a place for us to get REALLY important info to you before you log in, show the most recent posts in topics and stuff, and... stuff.

I know on my forum, whenever I tried to use the portal, it always glitched for me, so I gave up on it.

But ya, I have to agree with Firox, we are all veterans here. We don't need anything to specifically cater to noobs I don't think. also I cant think of any info we would need to see before we logged in, when we could just see it when we did log in on the actual forum. We can just have stuff like Top Posters, Most Popular Topics, and who has been online recently on the main forum page.

Yeah, an announcements bulletin would be preferable. Even us veterans need to actually know what is going on. For that reason alone, I say we should have one. Maybe a welcome for new users with instructions on how to get started too.

I'm trying to think long-term here. If we get more members, (and hopefully we will) we will need a portal with this kinda stuff on it. The earlier we introduce these things, the longer you have to learn to deal with it to get used to it.
